LAURENT-PERRIER DESIGN AWARD 2004

Katy Holford's design for a Dressing Table Series for Crabtree & Evelyn, has won the Laurent-Perrier Design Award 2004.   The result was announced at the opening of the Eureka collection, part of the London Design Festival.

The opal glass and pewter design comprises a carafe and glass, cotton bud caddy and cotton wool caddies.   It will now be going into production for sale in Crabtree & Evelyn stores.

Four high street retailers (The Conran Shop, Crabtree & Evelyn, Fired Earth and Heals) commissioned nine Design-Nation members to design products ranging from table place mats and outdoor lighting, to a computer table.   The designs were judged on the basis of attractiveness and elegance, fitness for purpose, originality and durability.

Discussing Katy's winning design, David Hesketh MW, Managing Director of Laurent-Perrier UK, commented “Katy's designs are elegant and stylishly executed.   They met the brief set by Crabtree & Evelyn to add a contemporary element to their range, and are also functional in that it will work well in either the bedroom or the bathroom .”

Peta Levi, Director of The Design Trust and Design-Nation, added

“All the designs in the competition were exceptional, but this is very beautiful and elegant and perfectly embodies the essence of the project.”

The judging panel comprised Peta Levi, David Hesketh, Robin Levien (product designer), Shin Azumi (furniture and product designer) and   Corinne Julius (journalist and broadcaster).

The winner received a cheque for £2,000, a Jeroboam of Laurent-Perrier Brut Non-Vintage Champagne and a specially engraved Laurent-Perrier crystal ice bucket designed for Laurent-Perrier by Emmanuel Babled .
